Dr. Sylvanna Vargas

Sylvanna M. Vargas received her PhD in Clinical Psychology and Master of Public Health from the University of Southern California. She is currently an NIMH T32 Postdoctoral Fellow in the Science of Child Mental Health Interventions and a Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow at UCLA. Sylvanna studies ways to ameliorate depression and suicide risk disparities among youth and adults experiencing unmet needs due to poor quality of care or heightened rates of mental health problems. She is particularly interested in ways to buffer against minority stress among multiply-marginalized groups, including preventive mental health interventions for sexual minority youth of color.
